Quorn Lodge

History of Quorn

The town of Quorn was surveyed in May 1878, with its location chosen to become a railway junction linking the north–south and east–west railway lines. Building began almost immediately, including two flour mills and four hotels. As the population grew, churches, a Government primary school, and sporting clubs became part of the town’s developing community life.

Founding the Lodge

As Quorn became a transport hub and commercial centre for an expanding rural area, it attracted a diverse population, including men already involved in the craft of Freemasonry. These men discussed their shared desire to form a Lodge in Quorn.

At a meeting held at Bro. Cobbin’s residence on Friday, 27 May 1910, the unanimous feeling was that a Lodge should be formed. A committee was appointed to investigate a suitable Lodge room, finance, and likely membership numbers.

Dedication Ceremony

The dedication ceremony took place on the evening of 7 July 1910. Grand Lodge Officers attended to constitute and consecrate Quorn Lodge No. 59 S.A.C. and to install Bro. J. C. Nadebaum as the first Worshipful Master.
